MOQ and tooling on custom boxes — not a catalog carton
Die, magnet jig, and EVA tray are program costs. A 500-piece folding carton and a 500-piece MDF book box are not the same factory conversation.
Why MOQ moves
Heidelberg sheet waste, grey-board wrap setup, and folder-gluer make-ready favour a run. Special shapes and MDF cores sit higher than a simple SBS sleeve. Wenzhou Taishan Printing Co., Ltd. does not publish a stock MOQ on this site. Ask for a quantity band on the RFQ.
A collapsible rigid wrap on 1.5–3 mm grey board is not the same make-ready as an MDF core (catalog 1.5–7 mm) or a new heptagon knife. Quantity conversations follow structure. Confirm the band when you send inner size and family — not after a photo-only email.
- Family first: carton, folding rigid, lid-and-base, book-style, MDF, corrugated, tube, PVC.
- Whether a new steel-rule die is required.
- Whether wrap is mill-order specialty or a sheet the plant can print.
- Quantity as a band (for example a trial versus a repeat), not a website number.
Tooling is not ink
We manufacture boxes. A new dieline is steel. Ask whether the quote includes die, sample, and production, or lists them apart. We do not hide a die in “unit price” without saying so.
Magnets, windows, and EVA trays are tooling, not a reprint of last year’s CMYK. A foil plate is a plate. Changing the blank after the knife is cut is a new die conversation.
Kodak CTP and Heidelberg print are in-house at Cendong Road. That does not turn a new shape into ink-only. Structure still needs a path. See the dieline article on this site.
Repeat orders
If the dieline and wrap stay the same, say “repeat of PO …”. Colour still needs a sheet check. Board lots change. A repeat is faster when the knife already exists; it is not a promise that millimetres and shade never move.
If the buyer changed lid fit, insert, or finish map, it is not a repeat. Write the delta. Production will not assume last year’s white sample still matches this year’s bottle.
Two conversations at 500 pieces
A 500-piece folding carton and a 500-piece MDF book box are not the same factory conversation. The number is a comparison of two RFQs, not a published minimum and not a price. Carton make-ready on Heidelberg and a folder-gluer is one path. MDF cores, magnets, and a book spine are another.
Use 500 only as a way to ask “which path am I on?” If your band is lower or higher, write the band. We will not treat a blog number as company policy. Confirm quantity on the RFQ.
Photo-only programs still need a structure before anyone talks units. A JPEG of a luxury set is not 500 of anything until inner size and family exist.
What counts as new tooling
New knives, magnet jigs, window films cut to a new aperture, and EVA cavities are program costs. Reprinting a locked SBS sleeve with a new spot colour is closer to ink and plates. Do not mix those two emails.
Special-shape gift boxes (fan, star, round, heptagon) almost always mean new steel. Portfolio photos are structure references, not a library you pick by colour. The Longgang plant — 20,000+ m², 50+ machines, die-cutting in-house — still bills a new knife as a knife.
- New blank / new steel-rule die.
- Magnet size or position not used on a locked program.
- Window aperture or hang-tab added to a carton.
- EVA or paper tray cavity for a new object.
Photo-only programs still need a structure
A retail shot is a mood board. We can propose a close family after you send product size or a sample. That proposal is not a clone of unknown tooling and not a unit price. Inner versus outer, core, and finish map come before quantity.
Manufacturer in Longgang since 2000, not a trading desk selling warehouse SKUs. Cyan and kraft looks on this site are photographed wraps. They are not items you reorder at a published MOQ.
How to ask without a published MOQ
Write the structure, labelled millimetres, finish map, and a quantity band. Ask whether die and sample are listed apart. Request current certificate scans if FSC or food-contact will appear — do not paste catalog marks as a contract.
Send the RFQ through taishanprint.com (EN/ZH/ES), [email protected], or WhatsApp +86 138 6598 7984. The reply is from Wenzhou Taishan Printing — plant at No. 187–239 Cendong Road — with dates and bands confirmed there, not in this article.
- Quantity band, not “what is your MOQ on the website”.
- New tooling yes/no, listed apart if yes.
- Repeat PO number if the knife already exists.
Put this on the RFQ
Catalog ranges only. Confirm on sample. Do not invent certificate numbers or a stock SKU from a photo.
- Ask for a quantity band, not a website MOQ — we do not publish a stock number here.
- New knives, magnets, and windows are tooling, not a reprint.
- Photo-only programs still need a structure before a price.
Catalog ranges only. Confirm on sample, board lot, and destination spec. Certificate numbers are not invented here — request current scans on the RFQ.
