EVA insert versus paper tray versus flocked wrap

Three different jobs

EVA locates a bottle. A paper tray is converting. Flocked wrap is a surface unless you add a well. Wenzhou Taishan Printing Co., Ltd. treats those as three RFQ lines, not one “premium interior” nickname.

EVA (or similar foam) is a cut or routed cavity that holds the product so it does not rattle. Wall thickness, density, and colour of the foam are specs. A paper tray is folded or wrapped board that creates cells. Flock on a lid-and-base wrap is a tactile finish on paper; it does not locate a bottle until someone cuts a well into a tray or foam.

Catalog photos of lined or flocked heaven-and-earth boxes are structure and wrap references, not SKUs and not a foam grade. If the photo shows a dark well, still send the object size. We will not reverse-engineer a cavity from wrap colour.

• EVA / foam: locate and cushion.
• Paper tray: converting cells, often recyclable with the box story you specify.
• Flock or liner wrap: surface, unless a well is tooled.

Send the product

A cavity needs the object or millimetres. Length, width, height, and any neck or hinge that sticks up. A retail photo with a bottle inside someone else’s box is not a drawing. Food-contact foam is a separate claim — request current documents; we do not invent certificate numbers on this site.

If you cannot ship the bottle, send a dimensioned sketch and say which faces must be tight versus loose. Perfume, spirits, and set trays fail in different ways: too tight and the wrap tears on packing; too loose and the bottle walks in freight.

Confirm on sample with the real product in the well. We do not publish guaranteed days or a stock insert SKU. The sample well you approve is the cavity.

• Food-contact: ask for current scans, do not copy a number from a blog.

Drawer boxes

Single- and multi-drawer sets often need a tray per layer. Count SKUs on the RFQ. A double-drawer with two different bottles is two wells, two knives or two foam tools, and two pack methods if the drawers do not share a footprint.

Drawer travel fights a tall EVA wall. If the foam is proud of the drawer, the drawer will not close. If the paper tray is tall, the lid-and-base or book cover that sits over the drawer stack must still clear. Write stack height as well as cavity millimetres.

Do not copy a lid-and-base insert dieline into a drawer without a new sample. The pull direction and the thumb clearance change the well.

Cavity geometry and well walls

EVA wells can be die-cut, water-cut, or routed depending on the shape. A round bottle in a square well needs wall thickness you accept visually. A paper tray well is limited by board caliper and fold; folding gift-box grey board in this plant is typically 1.5–3 mm, but insert trays may use a different sheet — name it.

Heptagon (七菱板) seven-panel outers need a well that follows seven sides if the insert is meant to look built-in. A round EVA dropped into a seven-panel box is a second tool, as the heptagon article says.

Flocked wrap is not foam

Flock, velvet-look wrap, and printed liner paper still run as wrap: print on Heidelberg 8-open, XL-75, or CDX102 after Kodak CTP when the sheet is printed, then lam if specified, then wrap the core. That path does not create a bottle pocket.

If you want flocked walls inside a well, say whether the well is paper tray wrapped in flock, or foam with a flocked face. Those two quotes differ. Photos of a black interior are not a material call.

Book-style and lid-and-base inserts

Book-style cavities sit in the tray; the cover magnet and spine are a different spec. The insert must not fight the magnet close. A foam block that is too tall holds the cover open.

Lid-and-base inserts must leave lid-wall clearance so the lid still feels the way you specified — snug or finger-loose. See the lid-and-base fit article. MDF cores (catalog 1.5–7 mm) change cavity weight and sometimes well method; sample the core you will buy.

Sample the insert with the outer

Since 2000 this Longgang converter has built outers and interiors as one program when the RFQ says so. Approving a wrap colour on an empty box and an EVA well on a separate courier pouch is how sets miss in production.

• Insert family: EVA, paper tray, flock wrap only, or mixed.

• One sample that includes both outer and insert.
