Gift carrier versus mailer

Ribbon-handle folding totes sit in the gift-box line. Handled corrugated packs sit in the corrugated line. Board and flute are not interchangeable. Wenzhou Taishan Printing Co., Ltd. will not quote a grey-board tote as an e-commerce mailer because a photo shows a hole for fingers.

A collapsible rigid gift carrier is wrapped grey board, typically 1.5–3 mm on folding gift boxes in this plant. It is meant to look like a gift on a counter or in a bag. A corrugated mailer with a die-cut handle is meant to survive a courier drop. Those two jobs use different converting paths: wrap and folder-gluer versus litho-lam or direct print on flute.

If the buyer will ship the unit as-is to a consumer, say so on the RFQ. We may tell you the gift tote is the wrong family and you need corrugated instead. That is a structure decision, not a wrap-colour decision. Photos on this site are structure references, not SKUs.

Tell us the bottle weight

If the tote will carry glass, write kilograms. A decorative ribbon is not a shopping-bag handle. Satin glued to a 1.5 mm wrap will peel or tear at the attachment if the bottle is heavy and the shopper lifts by the ribbon.

Triangle die-cut handles load the board itself. The cut must leave enough web, and the wrap must not split at the crease. Ribbon-handle totes load the ribbon and the glue or wrap-through tab. Those are two different reinforcements. We will not guess which one you meant from a lifestyle photo.

Confirm on sample: fill the cavity with the real bottle or a weight dummy, lift, and look at the attachment. We do not publish a guaranteed kilogram rating here. The sample you sign is the rating.

• Product weight in kilograms, not “standard wine.”
• Lift by handle in the shop, or carry in an outer bag.
• Attachment: glue tab, wrap-through, or hardware.

Catalog cases

Open ribbon, closed ribbon, triangle-handle, ribbon-handle tote are structure references. Size still comes from the RFQ. Open ribbon is often a lid tie, not a carry handle. Closed ribbon can be a loop. Triangle-handle is a die-cut in the board. Ribbon-handle tote is a carry pack.

Colour stories — kraft, printed brand wrap, foil on a navy field — still print on Heidelberg 8-open, XL-75, or CDX102 after Kodak CTP, then lam and die-cut. The handle does not change that print path. It does change the knife and the fold.

Do not send “make it like the pink one on your site” as the only spec. Name the handle family, inner L×W×H with handle clearance, and wrap mill sheet if colour is contractual.

Folding grey-board tote structure

Since 2000 the Longgang plant has run collapsible rigid gift boxes that fold for freight. A handle tote in that family still has to fold without crushing the handle web or kinking the ribbon. Ask on the quote whether the pack ships folded or erected.

Inner size must include clearance for the neck of a bottle and for fingers if the handle sits over the cavity. A dieline copied from a lid-and-base tray will not leave that clearance. Send a sketch or a sample bottle.

Handle reinforcement and die-cut

Triangle handles are a knife job: radius, web width, and crease next to the cut. Too tight a radius on thick wrap plus grey board cracks. Too thin a web tears. We set those on the sample knife, not from a Photoshop mock-up.

Ribbon handles need a specified width and a specified attachment area. If the ribbon is also the lid closure, say so — that is two jobs on one tape, and the sample must show both the knot and the lift.

Ribbon as closure versus ribbon as handle

A ribbon that only looks pretty on a folding gift box is converting, same as a magnet-free lid. A ribbon that a person lifts is a carrier. Mixing those words on one RFQ wastes a sample, as the magnet-versus-ribbon article also says.

If you need both a decorative tie and a structural handle, write two lines. We can quote two features on one structure only after the sample shows they do not fight each other at the fold.

What to put on the RFQ

Handle type, fold-flat versus stay-up, inner size with handle clearance, wrap and finish map, quantity band, destination. We do not publish MOQ, prices, or guaranteed days on this site. Confirm clock and quantity on the RFQ.

If corrugated is the real need, say mailer, flute, and drop expectation in plain language. We will not upgrade a gift tote into a courier pack by adding a nickname on the PO.
